Happenings in Mrs. Cassidy's Room
Welcome to the new school year! I am looking forward to another great year at Xavier. I am excited to be teaching 6th grade! I'm sure this school year will be filled with hard work and fun. My goal is to make sure the 6th graders are well prepared to move on to whatever the future may hold for them.
One of the areas that I teach in 6th grade is the content area of Social Studies. In 6th grade we manly focus on some review of Map skills, Wonders of the World and Early and Ancient Civilizations. Along with that we watch a news program called CNN10 to keep up with current events around the world. CNN10 does a nice job of telling these events at the level of middle schoolers. During the Second semester I begin requiring the students to turn in 1 current event of their own each week that they have read about or watched on the news or online. Some great sources to get their information from that are geared towards kids are:
CNN 10
DOGOnews
Youngzine
TweenTribune
PBS NewsHour Extra
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at any time. My email address is kcassidy@xavier.pvt.k12.ia.us
